Emma Isaac’s book ‘Winging It’ is fabulous! I absolutely love it. I bought it to listen on Audible during my morning row. I’ve been to a few Business Chicks events of hers, including the one with Kate Hudson in Melbourne, but never reached for Emma’s book until now. It’s so good I’m listening to it for a second time.

What do I love about it?

As a very successful business woman and mother of 5, Emma shares what has worked for her and openly what hasn’t. She inspires you with her stories and challenges you to think about how the game you’re currently playing in your business might be worthy of a bigger court.

I love thinking about business as a game to play. It helps me to stop taking things too seriously (especially when things aren’t going to plan! Like when you hit the goal post instead of kicking the winning goal!) and I stop and think strategically instead.

I draw on my sporting experience and think about all the components in rowing we had to get right to win. We needed the training program, the right equipment, coach, kit, crew members, mindset, teamwork, fitness, diet, technique, determination, dedication, perseverance, a race plan, big goals and drive and ultimately, we needed to believe in ourselves that we could do it.

We had to work on all of these things, and just like the title of Emma’s book, sometimes we just had to ‘wing it’ and hope for the best.

In business there are so many moving parts too. There are your customers, products and services, marketing, employees, team members, social impact, technology, accounts, finance, cashflow, pricing, returns, competitors, even bad weather and the list goes on!

If you’re competitive like I am and love to play to win (I go for PB’s these days) try this out by thinking about your business as though it was your favourite sport.

Decide which court or field you want to play on, make sure you know the rules (of today by the way if you’ve been in business a long time), take your position (which could be a new one depending on your strengths) and give it your best shot! As if the world was watching you play, which quite frankly, it pretty much already is, but that’s a story for another day.

I recently filmed this video tip while I was in London and my inspiration came from one of my birthday cards a very good friend of mine gave me while I was there.

I believe the world is moving into a place where there will be less focus on material possessions and more focus on having memorable and exciting ‘experiences’.

As a location independent entrepreneur I travel a lot and therefore I travel light. I cannot afford to carry around, and personally have never been interested in having too much stuff.

I discovered that I fall into the category of being a ‘minimalist’ and I have to say there are plenty of positives about this situation.

• There are fewer things to manage therefore you free up time
• It can give you a greater sense of freedom by removing things around you that just weigh you down
• It’s easy to be and stay clutter free
• You can enjoy your environment more
• Break free of feeling stuck from dead energy piled up around you…

…and ultimately you can have more time and money to spend on fun adventures and experiences in your life with the people you love most!

Now this can be a great thing, but it can also cause some issues..

Instant gratification doesn’t generally allow us to feel good about a really great job well done.

Can you think of something that has taken you a really long time to achieve?

Perhaps you’ve put hours and hours into it, maybe months or even years.

And then you finally made it!

How satisfied were you? How great did you feel, that you finally achieved your goal?

Even thinking about it now, how happy does it make you feel?

Plus – how much do you value it?

If we’re always trying to have instant gratification, getting things so fast, if things come too easily, we miss out on that amazing feeling after we have worked really hard and feel very proud of ourselves.

Today I want to encourage you, if you’re on a journey trying to achieve something, and it’s taking you a really long time, you know you’re on the right path, then stick at it. Keep going! You can do it!

When you do achieve it, you will feel that amazing feeling of completing a tough challenge in your life and complete satisfaction.

Throughout my career I’ve noticed that every time I ‘get on the move‘ good things happen. I can pretty much guarantee that as soon as I book a trip people come running to me for help. Even before I tell them I won’t be around in person for a while they just seem to know from universal forces and don’t want to miss out.

All sorts of other great things happen when I’m on the move too. For example:

1. EXERCISE: There is nothing better than getting on the move exercising to spice up your life by gaining abundance of energy to take action!
2. TAKING A BREAK: Just like athletic training, taking a break away from your usual work and life routine is extremely important. I always find my best ideas when I move away from my home or workplace to rest and do some deep thinking.
3. CONNECTION: When on the move, perhaps it’s just getting out of the house or office to see friends or clients, going on holiday, travelling to new places, attending parties, networking events etc. It’s here where you can develop some of your deepest relationships and it’s your chance to really connect fully with others in person.

So they are my top three tips on how to spice up your life by getting on the move.
