Just because your boss does something one way doesn’t mean you have to do the same. 

If it does not align with your values then don’t compromise.

Find a way that keeps you on path and aligned to your beliefs and goals.

For example your boss promises a client he/she will deliver on the day they want. Your boss keeps them happy in that moment by saying yes. But then he/she never delivers on the promised date and makes up some excuse as to why it’s not his/her fault.

Or worse your boss promises to the client and expects you to drop everything to deliver and puts you under huge pressure! (if this happens to you, feel free to give me a call to discuss how to speak to your boss to prevent this happening again!)

When you are in the position of agreeing a delivery date, if you know you will not be able to deliver on their requested date tell them at the time.

The question is would you rather be known for delivering when you say you will or never following through on your promises.

So often the client will be fine with your delivery date, perhaps it’s not their ideal date but if they can rely and trust you will deliver when you say you will they will be happy.

What makes you jump out of bed in the morning excited to go to work?

If you haven’t had one of these days for a long time think back to one time that you did.

What was special about that day? What were you doing? What were you working on? Why were you so excited?

I have worked with many people to help them find what their drive is and here are a few tips I would like to share with you.

• It’s not so much about what you do but why you’re doing it. If you know its meaning then you know there is purpose to what you’re doing.
• Drive can come from the connection with others. How is your work or project helping or inspiring others?
• Inspiration can come from making one of your ideas come into reality
• The goal needs to be big enough, you need a sense of confidence but it’s going to be a really big stretch. Anything that is too small for ‘you’ won’t be very exciting.

Once you find what drives you simply make sure it happens at work for you as much as possible.

Remember if creating new ideas is what excites you most but you dislike the follow through. This is not a negative, it just means you need a great team around you to finish your newly implemented ideas.
